CAROL ETHELYN SANDEMAN Carol Ethelyn Sandeman, beloved daughter of the late Charles Henry Dahl and Leona Lucille Lewis, passed away peacefully at Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, December 14, 2004. Carol was born and raised in Winnipeg. During the Second World War, she joined the CWAC and reached the rank of sergeant while serving as a dental assistant. During this time, she met Leonard Anthony Sandeman, a young RAF airman from London, England, who was training in Rivers, MB. After the war, he returned to Winnipeg, where they married on February 11, 1947. They spent the next 26 years in Winnipeg, where Carol was kept busy raising three young children and assisting Len with running a thriving commercial art business. In 1973, they moved to Brandon so that Len could pursue a teaching career at Crocus Plains School. They continued to live in Brandon until her passing. Throughout her long and active life, Carol enjoyed a wide range of interests including travel, camping, hiking, cross-country skiing and swimming; but her special passion was gardening, at which she excelled. Carol was a caring soul who always put the interests of family and friends ahead of herself; but her tiny, gentle exterior belied an unmatched inner strength and determination that let neither age nor deteriorating health slow her down. To celebrate her 70th birthday, she even went for a two kilometre swim! She is survived and deeply missed by Leonard, her husband of 57 years; her loving children, David, Lesley Martel, Jeffrey and their families; as well as her brothers, Lewis and John; and sister Florence. A memorial service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, Brandon, on Tuesday, December 21 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Nesbitt of Trinity United Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, A Bed For You, A Bed For Me, 150 McTavish Ave. E., Brandon, MB R7A 2B3. Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com Arrangements are in care of Brockie Donovan, Brandon, (204) 727-0694.
