MARIA JOSE PAIVA SANTOS July 12, 1923 - December 17, 2004 Peacefully after 18 years of illness, Maria passed away on December 17, 2004 at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 81 years. Maria is survived by her son Jose (Barbara); daughters, Maria (Jose) Braga; granddaughters, Ramona (Albert), Colleen, Samantha, Adriana and Sally; grandsons, Tony and Steve; great-grandchild Ava Brooke-Lynn; brothers, Antonio (Rosa) of Mass., Ernie (Diamentina) and Manuel (Maria); sisters, Mariana (Francisco), Connie and Emelia (Bernadino) and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her first husband Antonio Santos in 1971 and by second husband Francisco Barros in 1999. Maria was born on the island of Santa Maria, Acores and came to Canada in 1972. She loved spending time with her family. The family would like to thank at the Seven Oaks Hospital and at Deer Lodge Centre for their care and compassion. Prayers will be said on Monday, December 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin Street N. with Rev. Fr. Jose Eduardo Medeiros as celebrant. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maria's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
