PAUL ROSS Surrounded by his family, Paul passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on December 19, 2004, at the age of 60, after a brief battle with cancer. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 36 years, Rose Anne; and his two precious daughters, Cindy (Brian) and Kelly (Alex); also left to mourn his loss are his brothers, Ron (Judy and children, Jeff, Stacey and Michael) and Greg (Martha and children, Paul, Elsa and Katherine). He is also survived by his many supportive in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents Paul Sr. in 1980 and Marie in 1998. Paul was born and raised in St. Boniface, where he began an education that was highlighted with a Bachelor's of Science degree from the University of Manitoba. Paul was not only an excellent scholar, but was also a superb athlete, as he played for both the U of M Bison volleyball and football teams, and made an appearance with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers; he also won several curling tournaments and was a Manitoba Doubles Handball Champion. 1968 was an eventful year for Paul, as he married Rose Anne and began his career at Canada Packers. Paul was a devoted Packers employee for 22 years before he moved on to Fleisher Meats from 1990 to 1998, after which he retired and discovered a new passion for fishing, winning six Master Angler awards. Rose Anne was the inspiration for all of Paul's successes. Paul was one of those rare people who got along with everyone. He made anyone he was with feel at ease, making friends wherever he went, while remaining in contact with grade school buddies, fellow Frat pranksters, former co-workers and the Selkirk fishing (coffee) crew. He was a fantastic storyteller and speechmaker, being a highly entertaining, funny guy with an extremely positive personality. His credo: 20,000 feet, both engines gone, outta gas, and still climbing. However, he always said that his greatest pride and joy was his two daughters, and frequently said, I've raised two Ph.Ds. My work here is done. In accordance with Paul's wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will not be a formal funeral service. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the family plot at St. Vital Cemetery. Friends are welcome to attend. If friends and family so desire, donations in Paul's memory may be made to the Palliative Care Endowment Fund at the St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation. Heartfelt thanks to all of the staff on the 8th floor of the St. Boniface Hospital for their kind and compassionate care of Paul. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU CO.
