Date of Passing: Dec 19, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANDREA LYNN BARKMAN-MAIER It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Andrea Lynn Barkman-Maier, aged 31 years, on December 19, 2004. Left to mourn her passing are her husband of two years, Christopher; her daughter Jana; her parents, Ken (Bibi) Barkman and Grace (Denis) Theriault; brothers, Michael, Kevin and Jay; grandparents, Ed and Tina Barkman and Sara Jane Amos; her parents-in-law, Mary and Al Maier; brothers-in-law, Aaron (Robin), Ryan (Carlee), and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Levi and Agnes Reimer. Andie was born in Winnipeg and spent her childhood in the Landmark area. The highlight of her Grade 10 was a trip to Germany as an exchange student. After completing her high school at the University of Winnipeg, Andie enrolled in the Peer Outreach Training Program offered by Red River College. Andie met many challenges as a young mom and her experience contributed to her becoming one of the founding members of the Healthy Start for Mom and Me Program, working first as a volunteer to develop the program in January, 1997. During the five years she worked there, her winning smile and dedicated services were greatly appreciated. She travelled to various cities presenting her work, including a trip to Ottawa related to the evaluation of programs such as this. More recently she worked at Anna's House in Steinbach where she continued to offer her wisdom and energy to those around her. She loved her work and gave of herself to the families with whom she interacted. Andie was loved and will be sorely missed by everyone at Anna's House. Andie found her soulmate in Chris and they were married on October 12, 2002. Together with Jana, they were just starting on their journey as a family. Along with her lovely smile and bubbly personality, Andie will be remembered for her graciousness, her always helpful nature and her willingness to listen and help others. Despite her many hectic jobs, Andie always found the time to plan and participate in all activities relating to her daughter, Jana, and many family functions. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 23 at 1:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach, MB, telephone 346-1030. Viewing will be held on December 22 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Jana Barkman-Maier Trust Fund at the Steinbach Credit Union. We wish to thank everyone for the many prayers and acts of caring and kindness extended to our family during this difficult time. As my body falls to embrace the earth My spirit soars to greet the sky With my dying breath am I set free To begin the long journey towards home.

She was my big cousin my whole life, always took care of me and my brother and always listened to us when we talked to her. She never judged, listened patiently and always gave the best advice. I rememeber late night calls with her when things would bother us. God called his angel home, I still think about you all the time. Miss You my beautiful cousin!! - Posted by: Joey Alex (1st Cousin) on: Aug 16, 2015
