Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOYCE VICTORIA TOWNSEND (nee AMIRO) May 24, 1926 - December 21, 2004 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Townsend on December 21, 2004 at the age of 78 years. Joyce will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 57 years, Charles (Red); her children, Andy, Bernice (Dennis) Gislason, Caron (Tim) Clarke; grandchildren, Amber and April Gislason, Carli (Arron) Townsend, Joel, Amanda and Jeff Clarke; daughter-in-law Sharon (Glen) Basset; sister Betty Rodney; brother Ray Amiro and brother-in-law David Townsend who farmed with Joyce and Red for many years, along with numerous nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law. She is predeceased by her parents Frank and Mabel Amiro and her brother Victor Amiro. Joyce was born in Wakaw, SK and spent her early years in the Chitek Lake area. She earned money from her trap line when she was 12 years old and looked after her two brothers all winter and trapped when she was 13 years old. Joyce moved with her family to Hamilton when she was 16 years old and worked for E.D. Smith Canning Factory in 1942 and then Victory Aircraft from 1943 to 1946. Joyce had a lifelong love of music. She performed with the Victory Aircraft Recreation Club singing and playing guitar. Joyce loved to yodel. She enjoyed singing until her later years when she sang with the Ashern Community Choir. Joyce also loved to dance and was an excellent dancer. After the war, Joyce's family moved back to Saskatchewan where she met Red. Joyce and Red homesteaded near White Fox, SK, and then moved to their farm near Ashern in 1955. Joyce enjoyed sewing, gardening, music and a bit of travelling. She was very active in the community. Joyce curled for many years and took up golfing after moving to Ashern. She dedicated many hours of her time to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, the Legion and the Ashern Curling Club. One of Joyce's fondest memories was watching her kids and grandkids grow and play. Joyce wanted her family to remember her for just being Mom . We will miss her. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, December 27 at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall in Ashern, MB, with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Service will conclude at the hall with an interment to be held at a later date at the Ashern Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, P.O. Box 721, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0 in care of Julie Bergner. Special thanks to Dr. Warian and staff of the SICU at the St. Boniface Hospital for their professional care that Joyce received.
