WALTER DUDAR March 7, 1931 - December 21, 2004 It is with great sadness that the family of Walter Dudar announces his peaceful passing on December 21, 2004, after a brief illness, with his loving family at his side. He was 73 years of age. Walter leaves to celebrate his life his son Michael (Dana) Dudar; daughter Maria (Ross) Spratt; brother Mike (Anne) Dudar; as well as nephews, nieces, extended family and many friends. Walter was predeceased by his parents Katherine and Wasyl; and his eldest son David. Walter was born and raised in Winnipeg's north end. His youth activities and friendships centred around St. Mary the Protectress Cathedral. Utmost in his Ukrainian heritage and culture, he learned and performed Ukrainian dance from Avremenko, who first brought original folk dance to North America. As a young man he instructed My Dancers, performing at the Winnipeg Arena, Rainbow Stage and many church festivities throughout Manitoba. This group was cast in a Montreal TV film Ukrainians of Manitoba in 1960; also represented Manitoba in Toronto at the CNE First Fitness Festival in 1962. He was also on the first Ukrainian Canadian Committee. He sang in the church choir and loved to sing traditional songs with friends at weddings and special events. Caroling and festive traditions always held the greatest meaning of Christmas for Walter. Part of his heart never left his north end church and friends. Walter raised his family predominately in Thompson, MB, instilling in them traditions, culture and values that he held so dear to his heart. Walter was an avid outdoorsman throughout his life and enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice fishing, curling, snowmobiling and cottage life with his family and friends. He was a member of the Wildlife Federation and taught firearm safety for many years. He retired in 2001 as a provincial civil servant with Northern Affairs, to Ethelbert, MB. There he spent time with his favourite hobbies, family and friends. The family would like to thank the SICU staff, Health Sciences Centre, for their support and dedicated care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Prayers will be said on Sunday, December 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Funeral service to be held Monday, December 27 at 10:00 a.m., also in the chapel.
