Dorothy was born June 2, 1905 to Charles and Edra Warren in Gilbert Plains, MB. She completed Teacher Training in Dauphin and taught in rural Manitoba schools. This was a time when a different family boarded the teacher each month as payment of their school taxes. At times she rode to her school on horseback. Later when teaching in Makinac, MB she met her future husband. They were married in 1931 and settled in Flin Flon where they raised their family, spending summers at their cottage at Big Island Lake, MB. Dorothy was an avid curler and was active in the Northminster United Church Women's Auxiliary. She was a Past Matron of the Eastern Star and also held many leadership positions with the Girl Guide and Brownie organization for the Northern Manitoba District. In 1974 Dorothy and Roy retired to Victoria where they were members of the Esquimalt United Church. In keeping with Dorothy's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 5 at the First Memorial Funeral Chapel at 1155 Fort St., Victoria, BC at 2:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Dorothy, may be made to the Beckley Farm Lodge Foundation, 530 Simcoe St., Victoria, BC V8V 4W4.
