EVA BAEKELAND (nee DeCLERCQ) Eva Baekeland was born in Nevele, Belgium, March 3, 1913, and left us peacefully on December 22, 2004, at the St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. She has gone to rejoin her husband Omer; son Gus; daughter-in-law Ruby; mother Zulma; and brother Val. Left to cherish her memory are her son Roger (Lee); daughter Rena (Jim); grandchildren, Allen (Jen), Steven (Holly), Gregg, Richard, Lisa, Leanne (Ray), Leah and Kyle; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Hayley, Page and Kamryn. Eva was a member of the Belgian Club (Le Club Belge) and committee member of its Senior Citizen's Group since 1974. She was a longtime volunteer and was awarded the Volunteer of the Year in 1995. Eva began her volunteering career in 1968, working for the Volunteer Bureau, the Institute for the Blind and then for the Cancer Society in 1977 where she had a 27 year record of driving patients to appointments. Mom will be missed by her many friends and extended family. Prayers will be held on Monday, December 27 at 7:00 p.m. in Christ the King Church, 847 St. Mary's Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 28 at 10:00 a.m. also in Christ the King Church with Fr. Renato Pasinato officiating. The family would like to thank all the care givers involved, especially the staff of 6A Medicine and 4E Geriatrics, for their cheerful, comforting and competent attention. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christ the King Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU CO.
