MARY WURMNEST On Sunday, December 19, 2004, in her 92nd year, Mary reached the end of a long and very full life. Mary was a cherished wife and travelling partner to Walter; mother to Ben Grant (Shirley), Helen McMillan (Bob), Don Grant (Linda); and the very proud grandmother of Beth, Scott, Michael, Jamie, Jeff and Tom. Her purse was stuffed with pictures of her seven beautiful great-grandchildren. Mary's fan club grew through the years with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, and she was always at the top of everyone's guest list for family gatherings. Born in Winnipeg in May 1912, Mary enjoyed 20 years of family life with Walter in Sperling, MB. After Walter died she retired to Winnipeg. Mary was happiest in a kitchen creating her famous original recipes or tapping out a jig to a Don Messer tune. Using a walker never slowed her down, and her son-in-law Bob was a favourite dance partner. She enjoyed many activities with all her dear friends at Lions Place, especially The Skittles Club, but 4:00 p.m. would find her glued to the TV with All My Children . Mary will be remembered for many talents, but particularly for her beautiful crochet handiwork, great taste in colourful, stylish clothes and her title as the family photographer. Her gentle manner, undaunting positivity, generous spirit, and beautiful, loving eyes that saw the very best in everyone were an inspiration to us all. Heaven is a place of perfect reunions. A Memorial Service to celebrate Mary's life will be held on Tuesday, December 28, at 2:00 p.m. at Lions Place, 610 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 0V9 or to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1P6.
