JAN OWCZARZ On December 25, 2004, during his very brief stay at Riverview Hospital, Jan passed away peacefully, with his family by his side. He was a brave and dignified man who fought cancer and only when he could no longer live with dignity, he succumbed to this horrible disease. He now joins the Lord from above in eternal peace. He will be sadly and lovingly missed by his wife Bronislawa of 45 years; his three daughters, Donna (Grant) Obirek, Alice (Jason) Hannah and Kristine (Craig) Feschuk; grandchildren, Brittany and Ty Hannah, Victoria and Bradley Obirek, and Holly Feschuk. He will meet and bless another grandson from above, in April 2005, when his daughter Kristine brings him into this world. He is also survived by one sister, Anna (Stanislaw) Wegrzyn and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Michal and Bronislawa Owczarz. Jan was born on April 18, 1936 in Lozowka, pow, Tarnopol, Poland. After being separated from his father for 25 years, he was reunited with him in 1965 when he immigrated to Canada with his family. His goal in Canada was to ensure that life would be good for his family. Jan's goal was achieved. His family enjoys a good life through his hard work, personal sacrifices, much encouragement, respect and love. He began his working life in Canada at the Manitoba Rolling Mills in Selkirk, MB. He then went on to start a business with a partner, Famous Meat Market on McPhillips Street in Winnipeg, MB. He eventually retired as a meatcutter from Safeway, where he met many good friends. Jan's pastimes and hobbies included playing with and entertaining his grandchildren, growing and maintaining a huge vegetable garden, gathering with his friends and family weekly for a game of cards, playing board games with his wife and children, and watching wrestling. Special thanks to CancerCare Manitoba, especially Dr. Olweny and Shawne West, RN. Friends and family may send a donation in Jan's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, P.O. Box 2248, Station Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, December 29 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 30 at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. with an Oblate Father officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard Wegrzyn, John Wegrzyn, Jan Arndt, Jason Hannah, Grant Obirek and Craig Feschuk. A heart of gold stopped beating, hard working hands went to rest, God took you home to prove to us, He only takes the best. Heartaches in this world are many, but losing you was worse than any. It will be lonely here without you, we will miss you more each day, for life will not be the same for us. Since you've been called away. We will always remember the way you looked, the way you walked and smiled, all the things you did for us, will be with us all the while. You always did your best, your heart was true and tender, you lived your life for those you loved, and those you loved will remember.
