Date of Passing: Dec 25, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHENRY PETER BOYCE January 7, 1927 - December 25, 2004 After a lengthy illness and a brave battle with leukemia and other complications, Henry passed away at the Grace General Hospital on Saturday, December 25, 2004 at the age of 77 years. Prior to his passing, his wife, Anne and son Les, joined him at his bedside for Christmas Eve supper. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Anne of 55 years of marriage; two sons, Cary and Les; his two grandsons, Christopher and Jesse, whom he loved and cherished; nieces; nephews; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; as well as numerous neighbours and friends. Henry was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Walter, Ted and Jim; and his sister Olive. Henry was born in Transcona and later the family moved to the inner city where he assisted his mother in operating her corner grocery store. When not busy, he studied the dictionary. This accounted for his excellent vocabulary. He attended Daniel Mac High School and furthered his studies in science and geology at the University of Manitoba. As well, Henry completed five courses of property appraisal and property management. His career of 33 years began in 1960 with Public Works Canada as Regional Property Officer. He continued with Parks Canada and later in 1982, joined the Dept. of National Defence at Air Command, Winnipeg. Henry loved to help and train young people so that they could pursue and accomplish their goals as he had done. He was a good property negotiator as he always had the department's best interest in mind. Henry retired in 1993 after serving for 11 years. He was a longtime standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion and an Associate Member of the Officers' Mess. The Salvation Army was his favourite charity due to their efforts and help on the battlefields in The Second World War, where his three brothers served. After his retirement, he became a home chef, which Anne dearly appreciated and will miss. Henry's philosophy was simple, do unto others as you would have others do unto you as well, he followed the golden rule. He was a patient, happy man with a big heart; truly a gentleman, a kind and gentle person, who loved life and always thought of his family first. Henry, Anne and the children took many car trips to the United States, Mexico and within Canada. Later, he and Anne travelled extensively on an annual basis. His past times were reading, cribbage, golf and cooking. He lived a happy and a full life. May he rest in Peace. Public viewing will take place on Wednesday, December 29 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Ave. Our family wishes to extend an invitation to you to join us for a reception on Thursday, December 30 between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. at the residence of Anne Boyce, 507 Golf Blvd. A private family graveside service will be held on Friday, December 31 at Brookside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cary Boyce, Chris Boyce, Jesse Boyce, Derek McPetrie, Ray Hignell and Dave Gemmell. Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Ethans and Tom Ethans. Our family would like to thank the staff and doctors for the excellent care they provided our husband, father and grandfather. Henry always called the nurses on the 3rd floor of the hospital, sweethearts , due to their very caring attitude.
