Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALOJZA (LUCIA) KURTAS May 1, 1925 - December 23, 2004 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Alojza Kurtas, at Pembina Place Nursing Home, Winnipeg, MB. Victoria her younger sister of Poland survives Alojza. Alojza leaves to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life her four children, Donna (Brian) Stefanson of Airdrie, AB, Ted (Nancy) Kurtas, Stan (Leslie) Kurtas and Theresa (Dan) Beaudoin. Also left to mourn are her seven grandchildren, Kevin (Kendra) Stefanson, Kristy (Trevor) Tarasoff, Jonathon Kurtas, Michael Kurtas, Christopher Beaudoin, Alisha Beaudoin, Matthew Kurtas; great-granddaughters, Kaila and Sydney Stefanson; and great-grandson Andrew Tarasoff. Her parents, Micheal and Katarzyna Pawlowski; her brothers, Stanistaw, Hipolit, Janek, Juzek; sisters, Marisza and Bronia; and husband John predeceased Alojza. Alojza was born in a small country village Dominikowice, Poland, where she grew to a teenager, spent time in a war camp, married, then moved to Selkirk, MB after the Second World War. She was a women of great Christian faith, strong family values and a devoted wife to husband John. When arriving to Canada, Alojza could not speak English, but through faith and the support of new found friends who spoke her native tongue, they experienced many adventures together. Alojza lived and worked in Selkirk for over 40 years, living in Winnipeg the last eight years of her life. Alojza's greatest joy was her family, especially the children. Alojza was also quite a creative person winning awards for her afghans, in the local fair. Alojza will forever be remembered for her strong will and desire to raise a family with solid Christian faith and values. She had many friends with whom she loved to socialize and spend time. She was an excellent cook and will be remembered for many traditional dishes, the most special being that of Christmas Eve. She was a kind, loving and generous soul who will be dearly missed by family, friends and acquaintances. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the extremely kind and caring staff at the Pembina Place Nursing Home. They brought dignity, comfort and peace to a woman during her final stages of life. Special thanks to Kathleen, Grace and Dr. Ramgoolam. Prayers will be held at the Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 30 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mary Mother of the Church Parish, 85 Kirkbridge Dr., with Father Carl Tarnopolski officiating. Interment to follow at a later date at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. On behalf of Anna, Bish, John and I (& our families), please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of your Mom. Both your Mom and Dad were a huge part of our upbringing and childhood memories. We hope that you are able to find comfort in knowing that she has a place in heaven and that she will watch over all of you as your life unfolds.
