ALPHONSE MARIUS GIRARD SO February 4, 1917 - December 26, 2004 Peacefully, with his family by his side, Alphonse Girard passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2004. Alphonse will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Anita Girard. Dad will be greatly missed by his daughter Antonine Driedger and husband Keith Driedger; his son Raymond Girard and his grandchildren, David and Karine Driedger. He is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie Girard and Gordon Bourns, as well as other brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews who were very dear to him. Alphonse was predeceased by his brothers, Emmanuel, Romeo, Noel, Avila, Isaie and Antonin; sisters, Lina Verrier, Roma Bourns, Dina Olivier, Maria Girard and Antonine Girard. Many thanks to family and devoted friends for their gifts, cards, visits and phone calls during his illness. This meant a great deal to him. Thanks also to the kind staff of 6A, 4ECU and to Ron Chartrand and their Pastoral Care Team of St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care. Alphonse was born in Elie, MB on February 4, 1917 and raised in Elie, St. Norbert and St. Boniface - where he was actively involved in community organizations such as the Chevaliers de Colomb (Conseil Goulet), the Royal Canadian Legion and the Club St. Vincent. He was also instrumental in his parish, Precieux-Sang. Alphonse was an avid gardener and sports enthusiast who enjoyed golf and bowling, and he played a mean game of cribbage! He took great joy in answering letters to santa after his retirement from Canada Post where he worked as a letter carrier for 25 years. He also fondly remembered his early years working at the Leland Hotel and St. Boniface Hospital. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished the time spent with his two grandchildren, David and Karine. They were his pride and joy. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 30 at 10:30 a.m. in Precieux-Sang Roman Catholic Church, 200 Kenny Street with Rev. I. Blanchette, OMI, presiding. Interment will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU CO.
