JEANNE CURRIE (nee FREEMAN) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, in the early morning hours of Friday, December 24, 2004, with her family by her side. Jeanne's memory will be forever cherished by her loving husband Don, of 36 years of marriage; two daughters, Lori (Greg) and Sheri; and two grandchildren, Avery and Blake. Jeanne was predeceased by her mother in 1970 and her father in 1969. Born in 1944, Jeanne grew up in Fort Garry. She began working at Eaton's in 1959. After two years, she worked briefly with Air Canada before accepting a position with Mutual of Omaha Foreign Exchange at the Winnipeg Airport in 1967. It wasn't long before Jeanne's beautiful smile was noticed by an Air Canada passenger agent, who immediately knew he had met his future wife. Jeanne and Don were married in 1968. Their two daughters completed the family, Lori in 1970 and Sheri in 1971. Jeanne would remain with Mutual of Omaha for 18 years until 1985, when she left her airport family to accept a position with CKY Television. Jeanne loved working at CKY and made many friends there. Downsizing led to another career move; ironically back to Eaton's in 1994 until her retirement in 1999. Jeanne loved to laugh and possessed a wicked sense of mischief. She adored her daughters - her shopping buddies . Lori and Sheri were an endless source of happiness and giggles for her. Many would agree that Don didn't stand a chance against his girls , especially when a poor, abandoned animal needed a home. Jeanne had a heart of gold that was full of love for every new furry friend who entered her life. (It is well known that Don and Jeanne's house is surrounded by the fattest squirrels in the neighbourhood.) Jeanne's optimism, sense of humour and laughter endeared her to others and even in her final months remained a source of strength to all who knew her. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, December 30 at 11:00 a.m. in the Assiniboia Christian Centre, 3390 Portage Avenue at Rouge Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jeanne's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Street, Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 or CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Cancer may have taken you away from us, But it can never take away our memories Of your love, smile and devotion, As a wife, mother and grandmother. Thank you for a beautiful life.
