Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCYRIL DOUGLAS ( BUNG ) CHIVERS October 31, 1912 - December 23, 2004 Bung, who was predeceased by his son, Ralph ( Junior ) in a tragic accident in Winnipeg in 1948 when only 4 years old; by his wife, Jane (nee Bennett), who he adored, a few days after their 50th wedding anniversary in Toronto; by his sister, Margaret ( Marmie ); and by his brother, John; passed away peacefully in Vancouver. Bung grew up in Winnipeg, was a Lt. Commander in the Second World War, and served as captain on the corvette Rimouski and a minesweeper, protecting convoys of ships crossing the Atlantic. He and Jane were married during the war, in Toronto, both in uniform. Jane, also from Winnipeg, was the first WAC officer in Canada. In 1952, Bung joined TD Bank's Premises Department in Winnipeg, retiring in 1977 in Toronto. He relocated 6 years ago to a retirement home in Vancouver. Bung was always a happy and very gracious person, and will be sadly missed by his nephew Doug (Vancouver); by Doug's children and grandchildren who often visited Bung; by Doug's sisters, Tara (LA) and Ila (Auckland) who also managed to see him several times in the past few years; and by his niece by marriage, Christie Eller (Minneapolis) and her family, where Bung went for Christmas several times following his wife's death. No service, no flowers, by request.
