MERLE ERICKSON Merle Velma (McLaughlin) Erickson, aged 86, long-time resident of Circle Pines, MN, passed away December 20, 2004 at Birchwood Health Care Centre in Forest Lake, MN. Merle (Mac) was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Born in Plumas, MB on April 27, 1918, she spent her childhood years on the family farm. In 1943 Merle graduated as an RN from St. Boniface Hospital. She worked in Prince Rupert, BC and Winnipeg before moving south to Thief River Falls (where she met her husband, Bob Erickson), Duluth and St. Paul MN. Finally she made Circle Pines her home where she continued nursing for many years. Merle treasured her good friends and her family in Canada and the US. She was an inspiration to her nieces and nephews, and showered them with love on her many trips to Canada. Little Christmas with Aunt Merle was always a special event. It is a testament to her influence that five nieces and one nephew followed her into the nursing profession. In later years she really appreciated time spent with family at the cottage on Lake Manitoba. She will be lovingly remembered by sisters-in-law, Susan McLaughlin and Mabel McLaughlin; many nieces and nephews and good friend Sandy Letendre. Predeceased by parents, Edna (Bond) and Hugh McLaughlin; brothers, Lawrence and Wilfred McLaughlin; sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Beatrice (Erickson); and her husband Bob Erickson. Memorial services will be held at Good Shepherd Church, Circle Pines, MN on Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 11:00 a.m.
