ETHEL IRENE JOHNSON (nee LONGSTAFFE) Surrounded by the love of her family, Ethel Irene Johnson passed away peacefully on December 28, 2004 at the age of 84. Family was the centre of Ethel's life. A devoted mother and loyal friend, she had a generous spirit, an enduring sense of humour and a compassionate heart. She was a brave woman who inspired us all. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. From a game of cards to playing board games, she took great pleasure in family get-togethers, especially the Johnson Christmas party. Recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she never fully recovered from her surgery. She looked forward to meeting her God. She was predeceased by her mother Irene and her father Robert; brother Horace; first husband Erik Jonsson; second husband Kristinn Johnson; daughter Beverly; son-in-law Allan and stepson Ronald. Ethel was proud of each of us and passionate about her deep love for everyone in her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother Robert; by her daughters, Karen (Robin) and Linnea (Walter); and by her three sons, Ed (Jacqueline), Wayne (Sherry) and Robert (Shanlee). She will be dearly missed by her 14 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Margaret; brother-in-law Bert; sister-in-law Signe; and stepdaughters, Margaret and Jeanette. Ethel had many friends and fond memories of working at Eaton's mail-order and then B.A. Robinson, and particularly enjoyed the company of her new friends at her final residence at 1630 Henderson Hwy. A special thank you to Dr. Bracken and all the staff on 7A South, St. Boniface Hospital. To those who visited or sent cards and flowers, thank you for your prayers, care and concern, and for being a part of Mom's life. According to Ethel's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place Monday, January 3, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. (at Henderson Highway). A reception will follow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME CREMATORIUM 220 Hespeler Ave. @ Henderson Hwy. 668-3151

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • We have lost a sp[ecial member of our family. Ethel was loved by each and every member of the Stringer "clan". Ethel always showed so much compassion and love towards each and every one. She was a special person and made our late cousin Chris the great person he was. Ethel, I will miss our phone chats --- I enjoyed learning the events that were happening in your extended family. We love you and will miss you Blance, Mickey and family - Posted by: Blanche Reinberger (Family) on: Jan 15, 2005
