ELAINE M. WHELAN Tragically on Monday, December 27, 2004 as the result of an auto accident near Austin, MB, Elaine Whelan passed away at the age of 73 years. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Mel and Phyllis Davis and infant daughter Shaunda. She left this world with her daughter Janice Backlund by her side after spending one final holiday together. Mom leaves to mourn her passing her son Craig (Dawn) Davis; daughters, Lana Walsh and Kellie (Joe) Cooper of Portage la Prairie; grandchildren, Hillary, Joni and James; her sisters, Sandra and Marilyn; as well as many dear friends. Elaine was born in Portage la Prairie where she grew up and received her education. She spent a good portion of her life in Alberta and Winnipeg before retiring back home. Mom was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Assoc. She had great respect for the veterans, having lost loved ones to the war. She will be greatly missed by her friends at the Downtown Club. Mom experienced many hardships and trying times in her life. Despite this, her love and concern for others was overwhelming. She was always there to help anyone who was sad or lonely or in any kind of need. Her love of people and music brought her great joy and we know that right now she is dancing in Heaven. A memorial service with reception will be held on Tuesday, January 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Herman Prior Center, Portage la Prairie. If friends so desire contributions to the Royal Canadian Legion or The Manitoba Development Center, Portage la Prairie, would be appreciated.
