Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS EDDY STRACHAN Peacefully on Monday, December 27, 2004 at Calgary, Douglas passed away at the age of 84 years. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lorna; his two daughters, Victoria Perna of Calgary, Linda (Grant) Schwartz of Aurora, ON; four grandchildren, Douglas (Karen) Baldwin, Sheri (Barry) Wannamaker, Andrew (Alison) Unger, Jeff (Lisa) Unger; five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Alexandra, Darian, Dustin and Clare. Doug was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Victoria Strachan. Born in Winnipeg, Douglas moved to Marquette at a young age, where he lived and worked until moving to Calgary in 2001. He enlisted in the army and spent time at Shilo training recruits, before going overseas and serving in the Occupational Forces in Belgium and Holland. After being honourably discharged he returned to Marquette. He purchased a farm and was owner operator of the Marquette Transfer until selling it in 1980. He then was employed by the Department of Highways, retiring in 1990. Doug was an avid sportsman, participating in hockey, baseball, curling and hunting. He played in the Portage la Prairie Old Timers' Slo Pitch League until 1990. He enjoyed golfing and camping in the 80's and 90's. He was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Woodlands Branch #248. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at the Meadow Lea Hall with interment at the Meadow Lea Cemetery. Legion Rites will be held at the Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George's Anglican Church, Woodlands, R0C 3H0, or to the charity of your choice. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
