Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHENRY (HEINZ) CORNIES May 20, 1918 - December 29, 2004 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Henry Cornies, at the age of 86 years, on Wednesday, December 29, 2004. Dad was born in Ohrloff, Russia, son of Philip and Lisette Cornies, nee Penner. In 1941 he married his wife Anna, nee Rempel, and they were able to share joys and sorrows in their loving relationship of 63 years. After the hardship filled years of The Second World War, they immigrated to Canada, via Germany, in 1948 with the help of relatives here in Manitoba and the Mennonite Central Committee. They found a caring faith fellowship at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, and later at Springfield Heights Mennonite Church, where they were both actively involved. Dad's involvement was strong in the area of music, and he also conducted a Mennonite Community Men's choir for a number of years. Dad found employment in various areas, with his last place of employment being with Westeel-Rosco as a draftsman. He retired from this position in 1983. Even in retirement, Dad continued to be active in the church and music was always an important part of his life. He was very artistic, and he could now more actively pursue his hobbies of oil paintings and carvings, and these will always be a precious memory for us, of our gentle, loving father. Dad was predeceased by his parents and his stillborn infant son, Philip. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Anna; son Alfred (Ingrid); and daughters, Henriette (Rudy) Schellenberg and Irmgard (John) Buermeyer. He will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Teresa (and friend Tom), Philip (and fiancee Rebecca), Stephen, Miriam (Brian), Adriane (Jeremy), Christina and Leah, as well as extended family and friends. Thank you to Dr. Ray Martens and staff of Concordia Hospital for their care and compassion shown to the family. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at the Springfield Heights Mennonite Church, 570 Sharron Bay, with viewing prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Concordia Hospital. Although Dad will be sadly missed by his family, we believe that he is in God's care. Rest in peace, Dad.
