MICHAEL BARON With sadness the family of Michael H. Baron of St. Clements, MB, formerly of Thompson, MB announces his passing on December 27, 2004, peacefully in his sleep at Concordia Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Michael was predeceased by his parents Jack and Christina Baron, and his beloved dog Lady. Survived by his wife of 38 years, Anneliese; three sons, Roland (Darlene) of Winnipeg, Michael J. (Kristal) of Thompson and Wilfred C. (Sarah) of Marathon, ON; seven grandchildren, Hailey, Mikey, Ryan, Veronica, Cloudia, Abby and Morgan; one sister Suzanna of Winnipeg. Mike was born in Kucura, Yugoslavia in 1923. He was an officer in the Russian and Yugoslav armies in the Second World War. Mike immigrated to Canada in 1957 and owned and operated the Oldmill Bakery until 1968 when he and Anne moved the family to Thompson, MB, where he worked at the Windmill Bakery, Safeway and retiring with the Provincial Government in 1990. Mike was a life member of the Lions Club, serving several terms as president locally, and one term as District Governor Internationally. In his retirement Mike divided his time between family, the Lions and his beloved cottage at Paint Lake, where we all enjoyed his beautiful garden. In 2002, Mike and Anne moved to Winnipeg, where he enjoyed his dream house and garden until his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Memorial service will take place on Monday, January 3 at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
