HENRIKA (RIKI) VAN OSCH
Born: Jul 27, 1929
Date of Passing: Dec 29, 2004
Offer Condolences or MemoryHENRIKA (RIKI) VAN OSCH (KUYPERS) (nee VAN BAKEL) Following a brief illness, with her family by her side, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother, and Oma Riki on December 29, 2004 at the age of 75. She is survived by husband John; her children, Dorothy (Ron), Neil, Hank (Andrea), Casey (Phyllis), Silvia, Yvonne (Glenn), Monica (Larry), Don (Lorna), Bev (Wendell); 25 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn her loss, are John's children, Frank, Johanna (Peter), Cathy (Sandy), John Jr./Bobo, Rob (Sheila); 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by six brothers, five sisters and many nieces and nephews from The Netherlands, New Zealand, and Australia. She was predeceased by her first husband Peter of 41 years and her brother Wim Van Bakel. Born on July 27, 1929, in the town of The Rips in Holland, Riki was the oldest of 13 children. On February 15, 1955 she married Peter Kuypers. Following their marriage they immigrated to Canada where their nine children were born and raised. As the children grew, Riki started to work outside the home. She worked for River East School Division for a stretch, ran Kuypers' Store in North Springfield for six years, and worked for Air Canada for several years before retiring. Thanks to her employment with Air Canada, Riki was able to travel extensively to visit with her family back home. She treasured all the time she could spend with them. After losing Pete, Riki was fortunate enough to find love one more time when she married John. Together they spent many days and nights playing in card clubs and also enjoyed getting together with the Breakfast Club. Riki especially enjoyed socializing and meeting people. Throughout her life Riki made every effort to be there for her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as countless other friends and family. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface General Hospital Emergency and E5 Geriatric Medicine for their care and support during Riki's brief stay there. In celebration of Riki's life, funeral services will take place on Monday, January 3, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Theresa's Church, 3597 Main St. (Middlechurch), Winnipeg, MB with Msgr. Louis McCloskey officiating. A private interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, R3C 9Z9, or a charity of your choice. Our sincere condolences to the entire Kuypers family. Mrs. Kuypers always had a friendly greeting whenever we saw her at Casey & Phyllis'. Dave especially remembers her as being a nice lady because the "first" time they met she gave him a massage at the kitchen table. He had a knot in his shoulder so she stood up and came over and beared down on his neck! It was quite funny.
