Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDMOND DE CORBY Peacefully, on Friday, December 24, 2004 with family and nephews by his side, Ed passed away at Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 83 years. Ed was born on October 2, 1921 at Spy Hill, SK. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jacqueline; son Daniel (Dianne); daughter Arlette; two grandchildren, Wolf Higgins and Bryn Higgins; two brothers, George (Anna), Joseph (Inez); five sisters, Irene Lawlor, Hilda Carter, Mary Platana, Edith (John) McGeough, and Sister Elizabeth Anne De Corby; sister-in-law Finna (Arthur Perrin); numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces, all of whom he loved dearly and visited often enjoying many hours of laughter and reminisces; as well as many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, May Henriette and Elie Joseph De Corby; brother Henry and an infant sister; brothers-in-law, Harvey Platana, Michael Lawlor, and Ray Carter. Ed enlisted in the army in 1941 and joined the 3rd Battalion Royal Canadian Engineers and saw active duty in England, France, Belgium, and Holland including D-Day. He returned to Canada on leave in 1945, having volunteered for duty in the Pacific, but was discharged in November 1945 after the war in the Pacific ended August 1945. Upon returning to civilian life, he completed his education at the Canadian Vocational Training School in Regina. Ed joined the staff of Robert Simpson Ltd. in Regina in 1946 as salesman in the children's shoe department becoming the department's manager and buyer. In 1956, he was hired by Savage Shoes Ltd. in Regina as regional sales representative for southern Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba until the company was sold in 1970. In 1971, he and his family moved to Thompson where he was employed by INCO Ltd. until his retirement in 1986. Over the years, Ed was an active member of the Lions Club, Royal Canadian Legion, and Knights of Columbus in Regina, Thompson, and Brandon, serving on several committees as chairman and secretary. He was an avid amateur photographer and his collection of photographs, slides, and home movies of family, relatives and friends brought him much enjoyment and pleasure. Ed also enjoyed curling and participated in mixed bonspiels with his wife, Jacqueline and friends in Regina and Thompson. Ed was a modest and caring person with a mischievous sense of humour who enjoyed life and laughter. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 327 - 4th St., Brandon with Fr. Leo Fernandes and Deacon Terry Platana, Celebrants. Interment will follow in the Veterans' section of the Brandon Cemetery. A visitation and prayers for family and friends will be held Monday, January 3, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in the Brockie Donovan Funeral Chapel, 332 - 8th St., Brandon. Donations may be made in Ed's memory to the Heart Stroke Foundation, Unit 3 - 824 - 18th St., Brandon, MB, R7A 5B7, or to the Manitoba Lung Association, 8 - 940 Princess Ave., Brandon, MB R7A 0P6.
