EDMUND ARTHUR SCHOLLENBERG Peacefully on December 30, 2004, surrounded by the love of his family, Ed was called home to his Lord. Born to Martha Brugge and Arthur Schollenberg on April 9, 1927 in Winnipeg, MB, he leaves behind his loving wife Hilda of 53 years; children, Dr. Ed (Dr. Julie) Schollenberg, grandchildren, Erica, Viki, Nick of Rothesay, NB; Randy (Connie) Schollenberg, grandchildren, Anton, John, Josiah of Brandon, MB; Penny (Gary) Gilmour, grandchildren, Lisa, Daniel, Claire of Winkler, MB; and from Winnipeg, Wes (Christine) Schollenberg, grandchildren, Mark, Wade, Dustin, Anne-Marie, Joseph; Pastor Brad (Heidi) Schollenberg, grandchildren, Sandi, Joel, Kate, Julie; Kristal (Bert) Bouwman, grandchildren, Tiffany, Randi; plus one brother Ernie; numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and wonderful friends. Ed grew up in the North End of Winnipeg and began work at an early age at the Canadian National Railways with an accomplished career of 48 years. His hard work and diligence allowed him to provide for his family and led to his retirement with a Senior Management Position. Throughout Ed's busy life he had many achievements and things that made him proud. By far, what made him the happiest were his family, his wife Hilda, six children, their wives and husbands, and his 20 grandchildren. He was involved with the Transcona Boy Scouts for over 10 years, and with the Transcona Optimists, and also enjoyed the Masonic Lodge for a while. He loved playing drums in the Drum Bugle Band, which helped to support the work of the original Shriner's Children's Hospital. Family vacations in the Dodge Station Wagon were most memorable for his children, always a good laugh. Ed's hobbies were attending his grandchildren's band concerts, graduations, choir recitals, and just being able to brag about them. Gardening was a big part of his life with his flowers and vegetables being started from seed. Ed enjoyed spending time in his greenhouse and the many hours always resulted in beautiful flowers and an abundance of vegetables that were enjoyed by many. His lifelong hobby of stamp collecting gave him great joy especially during his retirement. He was a skilled woodworker and everyone's handyman and electrician. No project was too large for him to tackle. Ed attended Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, where in the last few years his faith was strengthened through the efforts of Pastor Dan Abraham. Ed will be remembered for his great conversation, welcoming handshakes, kind words, loving hugs, big heart, and his always finding the good in everyone. He loved life to the fullest. Although his illness slowed him down in the last year, Ed still always found the time to make those phone calls and to make sure everyone was looked after. He will be dearly missed by all. Special thanks to all the healthcare providers and care givers. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd Memorial Fund, 401 Kildare Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2C 2B4, or The Rehabilitation Centre for Children Foundation, 633 Wellington Cres., Winnipeg, MB R3M 0A8, or the Riverview Health Centre, One Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 5 at 10:30 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 401 Kildare Ave. with Pastor Dan Abraham officiating. Viewing will take place one half hour prior. Lunch will follow the service at the Transcona Country Club. + To God Be the Glory + NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200

  • I am very sorry to learn of Ed's passing. He was a man I enjoyed working with while at the CNR, and an individual who contributed much to my love of the electrical industry with his boundless enthusiasm for life, learning and electrical design work. - Posted by: Dale Shore (Friend) on: Jan 16, 2005
