EDWIN NORTON With deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of Ed Norton on December 28, 2004. Along with his beloved wife Pat, he leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Bill (Mary Jane) and Kevin (Michelle); his grandchildren, Adam, Robyn and Chelsea. Ed is also survived by his brother Percy (Marian); sister-in-law Anna; as well as his two aunts, nieces and nephews and his many wonderful and caring friends. Ed was predeceased by his first wife Cleo; his parents; his twin brother Edgar and his brother Russell. Ed loved the automobile industry, having been employed with McNaught Motors from 1979 to the time of his death, 19 of those years as General Manager. During this time, he developed a close bond with the entire McNaught family. According to Ed, the greatest place on earth was Lake of the Woods, where he spent many happy hours fishing with his buddy Doyle , water-skiing and boating. He took great pride in the cottage he built at Royal Lake and many good times were enjoyed there. Wintertime brought fun in Florida. Ed was community-minded. He was President, Keewatin Kinsman Club, 1961; District Secretary, Kinsman Clubs, Manitoba and Northeastern Ontario 1962-63; District Governor, Kinsman Clubs, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario 1965-66. In 1959 he became a Mason. Ed's great love was Khartum Shrine Temple receiving his 25 year pin in November, 2004. As a Shriner, Ed served as President, Directors Staff Unit 1989; Circus Daddy Chairman, 1989-91, Deputy Circus Chairman and then General Circus Chairman 1991-93; Membership Chairman for three years, as well as working with the Car Raffle Committee. He was also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. Ed's second great cause was Riverview Health Centre where he served on the Board of Directors from 1993-2004; and on the Board of Directors of RHC Foundation from 1996 to the present, holding the office of Vice-Chair at the time of his death. Memorial service will take place on Friday, January 7, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in the Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., with Rev. Michael I. Wilson and Rev. Donald I. Wilson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Doyle, Ted Foreman, Herb Liffmann, Al McGuff, Gord McNaught Sr., Freeman Myers, Art Schwartz, Bob Spear and Fran Violago. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed's memory to Khartum Shrine Patient Transportation Fund, 1155 Wilkes Ave., R3P 1B9; Riverview Health Centre Foundation, 1 Morley Ave., R3L 2P4; or Hospice and Palliative Care Manitoba, 2109 Portage Ave., R3J 0L3 would be appreciated. I've finished life's chores assigned to me Don't worry, or feel sad for me, I'm fishing with the Master of the sea.
