PENNY DARLENE SALIGA (nee MacKAY) It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of our wife, mother and daughter, Penny Darlene Saliga on December 30, 2004 at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 47. Penny will be deeply missed and cherished by her loving husband of 25 years Doug; her two loving children, Jamie (Jen) and Eileen; her caring and devoted mother Jessie who was blessed with her birth on Mother's Day of 1957; her four brothers, Bill (Chris), Gary (Rita), Steve (Thelma), and Dan (Cheryl); as well as all her other family and friends. She was predeceased by her loving father Harry Mackay. Penny was born in St. Jean, QC on May 12 1957, but spent most of her life living in Winnipeg. Penny enrolled in the Canadian forces where she was actively involved as a medical assistant for three years. This is where she met her husband Doug, even though they were in the same grade 7 class, but did not realize this until after marriage. She married Douglas John Saliga on July 7, 1979 and proceeded to give birth to her two children, Jamie and Eileen a year and a half apart. In 1983 she was diagnosed with Schizophrenia, but despite this severe mental handicap, she was able to conquer the illness and live the life that she wanted, and was a perfect role model for her two children to follow. Penny your kindness, affection, and devotion will be greatly missed - we all deeply love you and will remember you always. A memorial service will be held for Penny at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 6 at Grant Memorial Baptist Church, 877 Wilkes Ave. (near Waverley). In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to an education trust fund for Penny's children, Jamie and Eileen Saliga. Please call Gary MacKay for details at 982-4452.
