He leaves to cherish his memory, his son Reg (Doreen) of Toronto, granddaughter Kim (Mike), great-granddaughter Chanel of Toronto; granddaughter Karla (Jeff), great-grandsons, Cole and Ryan of California; grandson Rod (Peggy), great-grandsons, Jacob and Joshua of Toronto; grandson Kyle (Heather) of Toronto; son Gordon (Janet) of Penticton, granddaughter Lynette and grandson Robbie of Vancouver; daughter Elizabeth (Ken), grandson Raymond and granddaughter Marina of Winnipeg; and daughter Rosemary (Harvey) of Winnipeg/Minneapolis; sister Kay Lusk of Kenora; as well as many other relatives and friends. Bill was predeceased by his wife Mary (Buyar) in October 1990 and brother Fred (Marie) in October 2004. Bill Kowalchuk was born in Rainy River, ON, on July 21, 1916 to parents Peter and Dymme. He moved to Winnipeg as a young man to begin his career with the family bus business, Western Flyer Coach. In Winnipeg, he met and married Mary of Ethelbert in 1941. During the war, he worked at McDonald Brothers Aircraft in Winnipeg, and after many years at Flyer, joined Motor Coach Industries until his retirement after 46 years in the bus business. Bill was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, and his life revolved around family, work, church, Falcon Lake cottages, garden, and workshop. It seemed like Bill could repair or build almost anything. His garage was a repair shop for the entire neighbourhood. His amusing storytelling of life experiences will be remembered by us all. The family expresses their appreciation to neighbours, friends, and caregivers for their generous support over the years. Prayers will be held on Thursday, January 6 at 7:00 p.m. and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, January 7 at 10:00 a.m., all at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1001 Grant Ave., Winnipeg, with Rev. Fr. Mark Gnutel officiating. Interment to follow at Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, Headingley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church or a charity of your choice. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044
