DMYTRO YAREMENKO August 18, 1923 - January 1, 2005 The family sadly announces the passing of Dmytro Yaremenko on Saturday at Victoria Hospital. Besides his loving wife of 51 years, Gloria, Dmytro leaves to mourn his daughter Slavka and husband Yarema Shulakewych; grandchildren, Illarion, Lada and Oresta; daughter Alexandra and husband Michael Kushliak, granddaughter Sophia; nephew Valeriy Yaremenko; goddaughter Lydia Loboda and adopted grandson Danylo; brother Michael Yaremenko and wife Halena in the Ukraine, as well as other relatives in the Ukraine and numerous friends in Winnipeg. Dmytro came to Canada in 1948 and worked for CP Railway. He worked his way up from waiter to manager in the hotel industry, working for Dakota Village Hotel for 26 years before retiring. He loved listening to his church choir and was proud of all his grandchildren and their accomplishments. He was a humble, generous man who rarely talked about his own accomplishments. Dmytro was a member of the Order of St. Andrews, and a member of Shriners (Khartum House), Masonic Lodge. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the homecare workers Omm, Sarah and Steve for their compassionate care extended to him. Special thanks to the neighbours who helped at this sad time. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, January 4 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1175 Main St. with funeral service on Wednesday, January 5 at 9:30 a.m. also at the Cathedral with Rev. Fr. A. Harkavyi officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be the members of the order of St. Andrews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dmytro's memory to Help Us Help the Children, 1555 Bloor St. West, Toronto, ON M6P 1A5 or to a charity of one's choice.
