Date of Passing: Jan 03, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHAZELDEAN THOMSON CAMPBELL Peacefully, on Monday, January 3, 2005, Dean passed away at the Grace General Hospital. She is survived by her husband Walter; her children, Lorna, Barbara and Don (Rita); granddaughter Sarah; and sister Jean Slotwinski of Point Edward. Dean was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Sutherland. Dean was born in Miami, MB and had many fond memories of her childhood days. There were many stories of musical times, while her friend played the piano, of her beloved pug dog and even more stories of her life once she moved to Winnipeg. Long walks to Wesley College for her studies, living with her Aunt and all the adventures they enjoyed, living in a boarding house and later working for MTS. She was a gracious hostess, at which garden fresh green beans with almond slices, hors d'oeuvres and a buffet in the dining room were often served for their friends and Walt's colleagues. Mom was an enthusiastic camper and we had many enjoyable summers travelling around Western Canada with our trailers. Many a story was relived at the dining room table about our adventures. Building the cottage at Whytewold Beach was another family event with everyone pitching in and Mom coordinating the efforts. It became a place where friends knew they were always welcome to drop by and often did. Mom was also an avid bridge player for a number of years and enjoyed a mixed curling league with Walt and their friends. No one will ever make hermits like yours, Mom. And talk about pumpkin pie...to die for! In recent years, Dean has taken pride in her granddaughter's accomplishments and supported her highland dancing. At Dean's request, no formal funeral service will be held, however, there will be a gathering of family and friends at 2:00 p.m on Saturday, January 8, at her residence. Our family would like to thank the Home Care Workers, who have so lovingly supported Mom in the past few years, as well as, the doctors, nurses and staff of the Grace General Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. C. Winogrodzka for her care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dean's memory may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6.
