Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER RITCHIE On Monday, January 3, 2005, Walter Ritchie passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital. He was predeceased by his first wife Ann (Mitchell) Ritchie in 1983; second wife Jean (Kindefora) Ritchie in 2003; parents, James (Jim) and Katherine Ritchie; brothers, Thomas and Ernest; sisters, Margaret Nelson, Mary Arsenie and Elsie Novak. Walter is survived by his children, Lawrence (Marlene) Ritchie and Marilyn (Bruce) Smyth; grandsons, Norman Ritchie of Charlotte, MI, Jeffrey Ritchie of Hamilton, MI and Ken Smyth of Winnipeg; great-grandchildren, Sean, Alison, Nina, Brenden, Lynsey, Kenny and Jeremy. Walter was born on November 26, 1914 and raised in Gonor, MB. He married Ann in 1940 and farmed on the family acreage. Walter supplemented the farm by working at MRM, TCA, Bristol Air and Olekson Float Repair until 1959, at which time he moved his family to Minneapolis, MN to work for Northwest. In 1961, they moved to Cochenour, ON where he worked for Cochenour Williams Gold Mine, as well as Griffith Mines. Walter loved to work and talk of days at Cochenour. He retired in 1979 and relocated to Winnipeg in 1980. They lived in North Kildonan until 2003. When it became apparent he could not look after his health, Walter then moved to Oakview Place. The family would like to thank Pam and Stacy, his primary nurses, along with the staff on 3UII at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 8 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 or to a charity of one's choice.
