MINNIE JOHANNESSON Peacefully on January 3, 2005 at the Riverview Health Centre, Minnie Johannesson (nee Budner) at the age of 91. Minnie was predeceased by her husband of 44 years Karl Robert Johannesson and recently by her daughter Sherri Lynn Olivier. Minnie is lovingly remembered by her daughter Gail Davies (Stuart); her son-in-law David Olivier (Sherri); her grandchildren, Tara and Bryn Davies and Justin, Todd, Cory, Steven, and Jenna Olivier; her brother Michael Budner; sisters-in-law, Bernice Johannesson and Mildred Johannesson; and numerous friends and relatives. Minnie was born on the farm on May 4, 1913 in Springfield, MB where she lived with her parents and her seven brothers and sisters. As a young girl she went to work at a neighbour's farm and later moved to Winnipeg where she met her husband Robert. She was married for 10 years when her first child Gail was born who was followed three and a half years later by Sherri. Minnie was a devoted mother and enjoyed many good friendships in her life especially that of her longtime neighbours on Sherburn Street. She was an avid gardener and had won several prizes for horticulture as a young girl. Because of her interests in gardening and her life on the farm, her favourite television program was the weather channel and we often referred to her as our own little meteorologist. Minnie also enjoyed watching her soap operas which she followed for over 40 years. She was constantly baking, cooking, and canning and made sure that you never left her house without taking something with you that she had made. She loved to knit and crochet and over the last few years made Afghans for each of her seven grandchildren so they could keep them as remembrances. Minnie's constant companion was her dog Brandy who never left her side. Minnie was an independent person who lived by herself until she was 90. She had a great sense of humour even during her illness and was a kind and caring person who always put others before herself. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren who became the focal point of her life. Her favourite times were spent with them and we will fondly remember the good times we had particularly this Christmas when we were all together. The family would to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Program, the staff of Riverview Health Centre E3, and particularly Heather her home care nurse. We would also like to send a special thanks to Shellie Johannesson for all her support throughout this difficult time. Donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or flowers may be sent directly to the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at Thompson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, on Saturday, January 8 at 10:30 a.m.. Private interment will take place at a later date.
