LOUISE EMMA WEDEL-GLAUSER 1910 - 2004 Peacefully, with her family by her side, Louise passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2004, at Douglas Campbell Lodge in Portage la Prairie. Louise had a strong faith in God. Through her faith she gave her family the strength to accept her passing and know that the Lord has embraced her. She is remembered with love by her family, her children, Earl (Estelle) Wedel, Margaret (Ron) Meush, Gertrude (Derrick) Lund; her grandchildren, Anne (Dean) Danis, Sherri Burroughs, Glen (Lucero) Wedel, Debbie Wedel, Pauline Hunter, David Lund, and great-granddaughters, Devon and Michelle. Louise Emma Lindberg was the sixth child of Lorenzo and Johanna Lindberg. She was born at home in Muenster, SK on February 20, 1910. Louise was predeceased by all of her siblings, Gertrude, Edward, Arthur, Catherine, George, Lawrence, Florence, Agnes, Margaret, Walter, Richard and Arnold. When Louise was 22 years old, she met her future husband, Emmerik (Jack) Wedel in Macklin, SK. They were married in 1933. Louise and Jack farmed throughout their marriage in Saskatchewan and Alberta, eventually settling in the Elsmith district in 1945. Shortly before moving to Manitoba she adopted Gertrude, the child of her oldest sister, who was orphaned by the loss of mother at birth and her father at the age of five. Jack and Louise retired to Portage la Prairie from the farm in 1965. Louise, not prepared to retire completely, purchased a typewriter, taught herself to type and gained a position with the Daily Graphic. Later she competed successfully for a secretarial position with the Department of Indian Health where she remained until her retirement in 1975. Her beloved husband, Jack died in 1973. Louise then moved to a new housing complex, the Stephens Apartments. She met Eldon (Al) Glauser there, who became her second husband in 1982.The wedding was held in Margaret's home in Portage la Prairie. They enjoyed three wonderful wedded years before Al's passing in 1985. Louise loved to work with people and she made many close friends throughout the years. Well ahead of her time, Louise knew her mind well and didn't hesitate to share her views and opinions on matters. She always spoke for fairness and what was right, and she spoke with grace and dignity. As a result, she effected many positive changes in the lives of those around her. Louise had many hobbies, including baking, reading novels and the daily paper, playing cards and Bingo. In addition, Louise had quite the green thumb, nurturing her many houseplants. Louise loved to travel, and always seemed to be on the road to visit her relatives. The most favoured trips included those made to Reno with her sisters. In addition, Louise travelled to England, Denmark, Portugal, Africa and Morocco, and went on an Alaskan Cruise with her good friend, Marie. Louise also toured the United States and made many friends on the bus tours there. The highlight of her travels was standing on the Rock of Gibraltar. Family gatherings, though, were her greatest pleasure. Louise's last big trip was in her 91st year to the Lindberg Family Reunion held in Yorkton in 2000. Louise's family would like to thank the relatives and friends who spent time with Louise and who offered so much love, care, and support. We also extend our gratitude to the staff at Douglas Campbell Lodge and special thanks to her family physicians for the care shown to Louise. Louise's family thanks Fr. Michael Wollbaum of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Owen and Paula McKenzie from McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel for their loving care of arrangements, and all who attended the services held on December 27 and 28. Known for her zest and love of life, Louise will be sadly missed by all those whose lives she touched and enriched. Her memory will be forever treasured in our hearts. Dear sweet Mom, Granny, Grandma, Gran, Grandma New, and Auntie, we miss and love you. Your strength and love will always be remembered and cherished. Please keep watching over us.
