LEONARD BERNARD WINNICKI Mr. Leonard Winnicki, aged 54 years, of Beausejour, MB dearly beloved husband of Rosemarie, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at the Beausejour Hospital. Leaving to cherish his memory are his wife Rosemarie; daughter Maureen (John) Lyons and their daughter Teresa; daughter Ramona Winnicki; his parents, John and Cecilia; brothers, Lorne (Debbie) and Wesley (Nancy); close cousins, Cornell, Phillip (Karen) and Eugene (Darlene); and his extended family, Adella Zirk, Merwvn (Gwen), Lawrence (Jeannette), John (Lynette), Clarence (Ollie), Adeline, Darlene (Eugene) and Ernie (Karen); also many nieces and nephews. Leonard was an outdoorsman with a fond appreciation for nature. As a founding member of the Brokenhead River Game and Fish Association, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. As a younger man, he worked at the Beausejour Co-op for about a decade, and then started his own business as a chimney sweep. Len farmed for more than 20 years, growing certified alfalfa seed and raising leafcutter bees. He had a great love for his family and pets, and a unique sense of humour, developed over the span of 30 years of teasing at the hands of his wife and daughters. He and Rosemarie were fond of travelling and, each year, took a camping trip to the mountains. He enjoyed the wonders of nature, the stars in the sky, plants and animals around him. He savoured his quest for morel mushrooms in the spring. Len also had a fondness for automobiles and was particularly interested in collector cars of the 1930s and 1940s. Leonard, or Poppa , took great pride in all that he undertook and, with astounding attention to detail, developed a talent for wood carving. He firmly believed that any job worth doing was worth doing well. Viewing will be held on Sunday, January 9 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, Park Ave. E. Beausejour. The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Gertrude Avenue and 1st Street N. with Pastor Hugh Laidlaw officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
