MURIEL WALTERS Our family wishes to announce the passing of Muriel Walters at the Victoria General Hospital on Saturday, January 8, 2005 at the age of 89 years. She leaves to mourn her daughter Jill (Don Senchuk); grandsons, David Riel (Lynn) and great-grandson Nathanial; Derek Riel (Sarah), Keith Riel (Tracy); granddaughter Shannon Riel (Cam Flett); sister Ruby Lescarbeau (Wilf) of White Rock, BC; niece Michelle Price (Richard); nephews, Peter, Bill and David Lescarbeau of British Columbia and Derek Lewis of Bristol, England. Muriel was born on June 12, 1915 in the Rhondda Valley in South Wales. During the war years, she lived in London and worked in an arsenal where she assembled bombs and parachutes. At night, she danced to the big band music of Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller. She married Mel Walters in 1942 and in 1952, Muriel and her daughter Jill came to Canada to stay with Muriel's sister Ruby, who was a Canadian War Bride. Mom loved shopping, Baileys and whipping cream, getting her hair done and going to Joeys Only with her grandchildren. In accordance with Muriel's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Muriel will be laid to rest next to her father in the Rhondda Valley, Land of Her Fathers. Friends who wish to say goodbye to Grandma are welcomed to join our family for a toast on Sunday, January 16 between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. Many thanks to Dr. Roy Smith and the 5th Floor Staff of the Victoria General Hospital, Chaplain Jose, who said the last days with her are special times, and granddaughter Shannon, who was Grandma's favourite care giver and best friend.
