WALTER DANKO Peacefully, on Sunday, January 9, 2005, Walter, beloved husband of the late Mary Danko, passed away at the Betel Personal Care Home, aged 87 years. Walter leaves to cherish his memory five daughters, Angela Danko, Evelyn Atkinson, Sandra (Dennis) Rigey, Janet (Jim) Martin, Donna (Larry) Artimowich; daughter-in-law Danielle Danko; grandchildren, Sheila (Gerard) Lucyshyn, Deanne (Shawn) Hilts, Lisa Danko, Christine and Robert Rigey, Christopher, Stacey and Michelle Martin, Justin and Avery Artimowich; great-grandchildren, Michael and Adam Lucyshyn, James, Ryan and Sara Hilts, and Kaylee Martin; sister Pauline Kolton; brother Mike (Sophie) Danko; sisters-in-law, Blanche (Sam) Donanchuk, Angela Bunio and Pauline Banash; brother-in-law Casimer (Mary) Petaski; sisters-in-law, Frances Petaski, Margaret Petaski; and numerous nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary in March, 2004; his parents, Adam and Paranka Danko; his only beloved son Douglas; and son-in-law Wayne. Walter was born May 11, 1917 in Gonor, the second of three children. In 1945, he married Mary Petaski and together they fulfilled their dream of having their own farmstead to raise their family. Dad started his employment with the C.N.R. as a carman in 1947. Following the advice of his son Douglas, Dad took early retirement in 1976. Market gardening was not only a hobby for Dad but also a way to earn a second income. Many of our best memories and funniest stories stem from the hours spent on the garden with Dad and Mom. Family was of utmost importance to Dad and any occasion called for a get together. Surrounded by his daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren Dad would often proclaim, this is the best. Dad was very involved in each of his daughters lives and was very proud to have each one living within eyesight of the family home. He was our mailman, driveway cleaner, chauffeur, handyman, financial adviser, supervisor, marriage councillor, child raising expert as well as party organizer. Each of us were blessed to have him as our father. Dad will be sadly missed by all who knew him. His earthly journey is now complete and we pray that his soul abide in blessedness, where there is neither pain nor suffering, in a place much more beautiful than can be thought of by the heart of man. With your graciousness come to honour his loving memory during his memorial service on Thursday, January 13 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. The family extends their sincere gratitude to all family and friends for their many acts of kindness, prayers, love and support. Many thanks to the nurses and staff of Betel Personal Care Home in Selkirk for the wonderful care provided to Dad. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolences at www.gleneden-mb.ca.
