Date of Passing: Jan 08, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN MARLENE THURIDUR DUNN (nee HOLM) Suddenly, on Saturday, January 8, 2005, Joan passed away at her residence, at the age of 68 years. Joan will be lovingly remembered by her son Darrin; daughter Cara McAuley (Glen); grandchildren, Shaylyn, Brandon and Jessie; sisters, Heida and Lynn (Wendall); brothers, Donny, Lester (Rosemary) and Hugh (Jane); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and coffee friends. Born in Gimli, MB, Joan grew up there and then moved to Winnipeg to complete her high school. She then entered the work force starting at Sovereign Life, then Brooks Equipment and also the St. James Assiniboia School Division at Spring Valley School and Sturgeon Creek Regional Secondary School. While working at Brooks Equipment she met the love of her life, Barrie Dunn. They married and were blessed with two children, first Darrin and then Cara. Early in their marriage, they bought a cottage at Sandy Hook right next door to Barrie's parents' cottage, George and Olive Dunn. The family had many happy times there and also visiting the Holm farm. These happy times as a family came to an end when Barrie was diagnosed with cancer and died at the young age of 43. Joan did a marvellous job of raising Darrin and Cara on her own, providing a warm and loving home. She had many friends and was a loving, caring friend who we could always count on. Joan was a fabulous cook and after sharing her delicious meals, those lucky enough to grace her table were always sent home with a care package. A true friend, mother, sister, grandma and aunt, she will be truly missed by all of us lucky enough to have known her. Joan's funeral service will be held on Friday, January 14 at 10:30 a.m. in Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Ave. at Mount Royal Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's memory may be made to the Manitoba School for the Deaf, 242 Stradford St., Winnipeg, MB R2Y 2C9. So sorry to hear about Joan who is my cousin. We were in the same class until she moved to Winnipeg in Grade 8. She was a very good person and had the most beautiful blond hair when she was a kid. - Posted by: Margaret Bjarnason Amirault (Family) on: Jan 17, 2005
