KATHERINE KOSTYNYK (nee BADIUK) Peacefully with her family by her side, Katherine passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Marjorie Onysko and Joyce (Bill) Fosty; grandchildren, Robert (Carmen), Pat (Alan), Douglas (Violet). She also leaves behind six precious great-grandchildren, Katrina, Evan, Kira, Toni Sloane, Julian, Marysa and a sister Vasylka. She also leaves behind sisters and brothers-in-law, Mike and Nellie Kostynyk, Mike and Lena Gushuliak, Anne and Doris Kostynyk and many, many, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Katherine was predeceased by her parents, Elena and Dmytro; husband William; granddaughter Gail; son-in-law Tony and siblings, Marichka, Domka, Rose, Sophie and Nick. Katherine was born and grew up in Arbakka in 1917. She lived there until she met her Bill (William) Kostynyk, whom she married. It was in that small community where Katherine and Bill's daughters were born. During their lifetime together they were well known business people in southeastern Manitoba. They were storekeepers in Vita and later owned Deluxe Bowling Lanes in Steinbach. Our Mom and Baba was a very talented lady. She was a master seamstress with keen concentration for the task at hand. She loved crocheting, cooking and baking. Few could match her Matrimonial bars. Her flower garden was her pride and joy. Her roses and geraniums could have handily won ribbons. In 2000 Mom moved to Winnipeg and resided at the Ivan Franko Manor. While living there she made many friends including Lucille, Mary and her home care workers. In the past few years she lived at Luther Home where she kept a watchful eye on the developments of the floral courtyard. The family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Eng for his visits, attentiveness and phone conversations; to the nursing staff at the Victoria General Hospital for all of their care and concern; and special thanks to all the staff at Luther Home for the care and attention that Mom received. The wonderful extra curricular programs, the music and special parties were always appreciated and enjoyed by Mom. Pallbearers will be Douglas Fosty, Robert Onysko, Evan Onysko, Alan Lawrence, Gene Gushuliak and Steve Bilan. Honorary Pallbearers are: Bill Fosty, Bill Badiuk, Bill Bilan, Mike Kostynyk and Victor Medwid. Prayers will be held on Friday, January 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home. Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday, January 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1175 Main St., with Rev. Fr. Alexander Harkavyi officiating. Interment and reception will follow at Glen Eden. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 Main Street 338-7111 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolences at www.gleneden-mb.ca
