NICHOLAS IWANOCZKO (EWANOCHKO) Peacefully, on Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at the age of 103 years, Nicholas Iwanoczko passed away at the Holy Family Nursing Home, with his family by his side. Dad was predeceased by his parents Irene and John; his wife Ann; brothers, John, Mike, Andrew; his daughter-in-law Ann and his son Walter. He will be sadly missed by his son Joe (Helen); grandchildren, Russell (Susan), Glenn, Allan (Marta), Kelly and Joy; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dad was born December 15, 1901, in Chernova, Western Ukraine. He came to Canada in 1925 and settled in Elma. He married Ann Evanochko in 1929 and had two sons. He worked as a section man on the CN Line for 36 years and retired in 1965. Dad was a fantastic cook. Walter and Joe and their families would visit on Sundays and holidays, and he always had a delicious home cooked meal ready for everyone, followed by great cakes and desserts. Dad was active in the church in Elma. He loved to sing. He was a cantor and sang in the church choir. Dad was a jack of all trades. He was the town barber, and kept busy in the town store as a helper and butcher. He also loved gardening. Every year he would plant a huge garden with all the vegetables we could all eat, and preserve for the winter. He was always smiling and cheerful, and was willing to help anyone he could. Special thanks to Dr. Connelly, Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate and the staff of Holy Family Nursing Home, especially 3A which took great care of Dad and treated him as a friend. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 14 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 15 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Munroe Avenue at Watt Street, with Rev. D. Kawiuk officiating. Services will terminate at the church. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Russ, Glenn, Allan, Joy and Kelly, and his great-grandchildren, Melissa and Nick.
