EDNA OLIVE GILLINGHAM November 30, 1904 - January 6, 2005 Edna Gillingham passed away at the Tuxedo Villa in Winnipeg five weeks after her 100th birthday. Edna was predeceased by her parents, William and Hannah; brothers, Will, Frank and Ralph; sister Gladys in infancy and lifelong friend Min Ego. She is survived by two nieces, Olive (Harry) Bell and Irene (Frank) Sham as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews. Edna was an elegant lady who gained respect from all who met her throughout her entire life. She will be particularly remembered by many present and former Royal Bankers. Born in England, Edna came to Canada with her family at a young age. After graduation from secretarial college (where she won many typing proficiency awards), she joined the Royal Bank of Canada where she was to enjoy a career of almost 50 years. Starting at the Sherbrook and Portage branch she later went to the Manitoba region head office. There she served as secretary to and trained a number of district general managers. She retired in 1970. A dedicated and diligent worker, Edna made a lasting impression on many young bankers coming up through the ranks, always ensuring they were using correct grammar and correcting their spelling. Edna enjoyed a wonderful and long retirement. She was able to travel extensively with Min and other friends. She also had a passion for the game of bridge and became an expert in the rules of Goren. Edna had a great love for animals and in later years looked forward to her visits with Dickens. In keeping with Edna's wishes there will be no service. If people so desire, donations made to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. The family and friends would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Tuxedo Villa for their kind caring of Edna over the past few years.
