Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySAMUEL CLARENCE HENRY BATES Samuel Clarence Henry Bates of The Pas passed away November 28, 2004, at the age of 65 years. He was born in Kinosota, MB on June 21, 1939, to parents, Joseph and Bessie Bates. He married Jean Marion Morrison on January 9, 1991. At a young age Sam fished with his father on Lake Manitoba near Kinosota. He then diamond drilled for Midwest for a few years. Working as an apprentice plumber for Balcon's brought Sam to the city of Winnipeg. Sam then moved to The Pas (1969) to work as a pipefitter while the CFI pulp mill was being built (presently known as Tolko). When they finished building the pulp mill Sam started his own plumbing business as well as commercial fished on Goose Lake for many years until present. He was a loyal union member of the United Association Local No. 254 for nearly 40 years. Sam was well liked and respected by many people in the community of all ages. He enjoyed getting together with friends and family telling jokes, listening to good old country music and having a good laugh. He enjoyed many country music festivals over the years and in the latter years enjoyed Saturday mornings, having coffee and Baileys playing bingo at home with his wife and their good friend, whom he also considered to be a part of his family. One main thing was his grandchildren, he tried to be involved with them as much as possible, whether it involved sports, camping, school work or attending various other activities. Sam will be dearly missed by everyone who was close to him, be it family or friends. Sam was predeceased by his mother Bessie Bates and brother Barrie Bates. He is survived by his father Joseph; brothers, Gordon (Mary), Garnet (Phyllis); sisters, Annie, Agnes (Doug); sons, Neil (Helen), Rick; and daughter Samantha (Kyle); wife Jean; sons, Dwight (Kathy), Sheldon (Sabrina); daughters, Teresa (Les), Sherry (Peter); grandchildren, Dustin, Alex, Honora, Ricki-Lee, Hannah, Wyatt, Ty, Danielle, Dylan, Lucas, Shaelene, Presley and Carley. A funeral service for Samuel was held Saturday, December 4 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cathedral, The Pas, with the Vern. Grahme Spear, Anglican Minister, officiating. Organist was Rita Hayward. Active pallbearers were Gordon Bates, Garnet Bates, Neil Bates, Rick Bates, Dustin Bates and Alex Bates. Honourary pallbearers were all of Sam's friends and family. Ushers were Peter Thwaites and Paul Thwaites. They also served as the memorial register attendants. Interment was held at St. Bede's, Kinosota, MB. The Pas Local M.M.F. served lunch in the Club Room at the Elks Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 12013 Stn Main, Toronto, ON. Dadson Funeral Home of Flin Flon was entrusted with the arrangements.
