ALGOT AL ALEXIS JOHNSON Peacefully, on Sunday, January 9, 2005, Al passed away at the Extendicare Tuxedo Villa at the age of 102 years. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Shirley; son-in-law Pat; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his wife Sylvia; sisters, Lottie, Elise, Helen and Adela and brother Une. Al was born in Sweden on April 25, 1902. He and his family came to Canada when he was five years old and his family farmed in Preeceville, SK. Al came to Winnipeg to take up barbering in 1927 and married Sylvia Holmberg in 1929. They settled in Charleswood in 1932 on Wexford Street North. He barbered on Corydon Avenue until his retirement at age 75. Al then took up his favourite hobby of fixing lawn mowers until he was 95 years old. In keeping with Al's wishes, there will not be a formal service, however, a private family graveside service will be held at a later date. A special thanks to all the staff at the Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home and especially the staff of No. 1 and 2 Nursing Station. Also special thanks to all of Al's companions from the Gentle Touch Home Health Care Services; as well as extra special thanks to Charlie and Bev Schille for their thoughtfulness, kindness and caring.
