JOHN JAMES JIM HOLTMAN Peacefully on January 11, 2005, John James Jim Holtman passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 81 years. Jim is survived by his loving wife Irene; daughter Linda Kummen (a comatose patient at Deer Lodge Centre); son Greg (Bette); two lovely granddaughters, Julie Kummen and Karen (J.C.) Diak and their father Bruce Kummen; two great-grandchildren, Dusty and Aston. Also left to mourn are brother Harold; and numerous other relatives. He was predeceased by his brother Ted; and his parents. Jim was born on May 31, 1923, in Winnipeg and spent his childhood in Rockglen, SK. He signed up for the RCAF in 1941 and served until September 1945. He married Irene, his childhood sweetheart, on November 16, 1946. After serving in the air force, Jim had several jobs as a travelling salesman until he found his place at the Winnipeg Free Press. He retired in 1987 after more than 25 years as a district manager. Jim loved the family cottage in Grand Beach, building and repairing it over the last 60 years. He loved preparing holiday dinners for the grandchildren and showing them the wonders of the countryside. The family would like to thank the caregivers at St. Boniface Hospital for all their support and hope. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., with Richard Kryftik as officiant. A private interment will follow in St. Vital Cemetery. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044

  • Jim Holtman had a special relationship with so many people. He was a son, brother, a husband and a father. He was a grandfather, and a great grand father. He was a friend and a neighbour.
