MICHAEL KOSACK Michael Kosack passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at the Selkirk General Hospital, aged 90 years. He will be greatly missed by children, Lorne of Crossfield, AB, Sylvia (Robert) of Rosser, MB, Garry of Calgary, AB and Charlene of Regina, SK; grandchildren, Dwayne (Melanie), Aaron (Tracy), Corissa (Alec), Michael, Tamara (Ken), Chris and Ivan; great-grandchildren, Shanaya, Ryan and Abby; brother Fred; sisters, Mary and Anne; and many other family members. He was predeceased by wife Olga; daughter Sharon; parents, Wasyl and Anastasia; son-in-law Gordon; brothers, Metro, John, Harry, Andrew, Stefan, Alexander, Nicholas and William; sisters, Katie and Eva. Mike was born on December 8, 1914 on the family farm near Libau, MB. He attended Libau West School until required to work full-time on the farm. As a young man he farmed, worked on the threshing crews, made hay on the marshes, and went logging in the winters. In 1939 he married Olga Klim. They homesteaded their own land north of East Selkirk. Mike was active in the Red River Co-op and the National Farmer's Union, he was also the caretaker of Hoey East School from 1945 to 1960. He worked at the Rolling Mills, then at Abex Industries, retiring from Abex in 1979 and from farming in 1986. Mike and Olga moved to East Selkirk in 1986, together building a new house and developing a two acre garden of flowers, vegetables and trees. During his retirement, Mike curled, gardened and went dancing whenever possible. In 2000 they moved to Selkirk. Olga died in 2003 after 63 years of marriage, and Mike later moved to Tudor House. Throughout his life, Mike was a constant pillar of strength and support for his family and, even in his final days, he was able to mutually enjoy time with three generations of his family. Prayer services will be said Sunday, January 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 17 at 10:00 a.m., also in the chapel with Fr. Mike Pozdyk officiating. Interment will follow at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Poplar Park, MB. The family would like to thank the staff at Tudor House for their care and attention.
