JERRY RICHARD OSTER It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the very sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, brother-in-law and dear friend, Jerry Oster. Lovingly remembered by his wife Val (nee Reece); sons, Jason (Lindsay) and Jarrett; brother Donny (Pat); sisters, Elaine (Wally), Gloria (Jim), Cynthia (Vince); sister-in-law Linda; Auntie Rosie; father-in-law Albert Reece; brother-in-law Buddy (Joanne); sisters-in-law, Bernice (Richard) and Grace (Lance); as well as countless other loving family and friends. Jerry was predeceased by his father John Oster; mother Pauline Petrachek; stepfather Joe Petrachek; brother David Oster; and mother-in-law Ombra Reece. Born on January 22, 1950, Jerry grew up in Shorncliffe, MB, and attended school in Riverton. Jerry received his science degree from the University of Winnipeg in 1971, then continuing on to the University of Manitoba, graduating in education in 1975. In 1969, Jerry met his sweetheart Val. Married in 1972, Val and Jerry had two sons, Jason and Jarrett. Jerry was an extremely proud and dedicated father and husband who meant the world to his family. Jerry was anxiously awaiting the wedding of his son Jason to Lindsay Williamson in August of this year. Jerry was a devoted teacher who touched the lives of many students at Viscount Alexander, Dalhousie Elementary, and the last few years teaching grade 5, at Bairdmore Elementary School. Jerry was not only an inspiration to his students, but to all that had the honour of knowing him. Jerry had a zest for life and a deep passion for everything that he did. He was an extremely hard worker, who was never happier than when starting a new project - and though he worked hard - he played even harder. Wherever Jerry was, there was life, love and laughter. A dedicated and proud hockey dad, Jerry was devoted to his boys and supported all their dreams and aspirations. Jerry enjoyed his summers golfing and relaxing at Spruce Sands Trailer Park with Val and all their family and friends. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 15 at 2:00 p.m. in Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside, with Milly Malavsky officiating. We consider all our family and friends as honorary pallbearers. The family would like to thank the First Responders and Winnipeg Ambulance for their great efforts, Dr. Sharkey for all the years of care, as well as the many family and friends for all of their love and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba at 200 - 6 Donald in Jerry's name. Our Jerry was like a song; we feel lucky to have heard the music. • My deepest sympathy goes out to you, Val, and your boys. Words can't describe how sorry I am about your loss. I am thinking about you and will keep you in my prayers at this difficult time in your life. I wish I was there to give you a great big hug. Try hard to be strong as Jerry would have liked you to be. I know you will find comfort in those handsome sons of yours. Thinking of you, Betty Misanchuk - Posted by: Betty Misanchuk (Friend) on: Jan 15, 2005

  • Very sorry to hear of your loss...he had great life ,it seems... wish I had seen him over the years....spent a lot of time with a small group in Gr. 11 and 12 with lots of jokes and humor. I didn't realize he taught all these years... ready to retire, as he would be 55 this year? My sympathy to his family. Keep the good memories and he'll be part of family times in years to come. - Posted by: Janice (Friend) on: Jan 15, 2005
