Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNA HAJIDIACOS 1944 - 2005 After a brave battle with cancer, and with her family by her side, Anna Hajidiacos passed away peacefully at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, January 14, 2005 at the age of 60. She was born Anna Tsambis on April 9, 1944 on the island of Rhodes in the village Apollona, Greece. In 1969 she married Peter Hajidiacos and shortly thereafter moved to Winnipeg along with her husband to build a new life together. In 1975, she gave birth to their only son Nicholas. During her 25 years in Winnipeg, she worked in the restaurant industry and most recently at Pizzaland where many will remember her for her fantastic laugh and sincerest smile. Anna was a special woman who will be remembered by all who knew her for being a kind and humble individual who always put the needs of others before her own. She preferred listening over speaking and in doing so made people feel incredibly at ease around her. Her tremendous cooking always garnered compliments at her many dinner parties that she hosted for family and friends. She was an incredibly compassionate person who flew overseas to care for her ailing mother-in-law when she was first married and later, among her great sorrows in life, cared for her own husband who passed away in 1996. Anna enjoyed travelling to Greece and visiting with her family who she loved and spoke of often. She had many fond memories of growing up in Apollona and cherished her time with her parents, her three sisters and their families. At work and in her personal life, Anna exercised incredible patience and nurtured others with her kindness of spirit that will live on forever in all those who cared for her. Anna made friends everywhere she went and loved to be in the company of family, friends and neighbours who she went out of her way to get to know and welcome into her home and her heart. She loved to laugh and share in her family's joys, of which she had plenty, including her son's marriage to her daughter-in-law Demetra. She most recently experienced the pinnacle of happiness when her grandson Peter was born. Anna is predeceased by her parents Manolis and Maria, and her husband Peter. She leaves behind to mourn her, her son Nicholas, her daughter-in-law Demetra, her grandson Peter; her sisters, Despina (Stamati), Seva (Adoni), Irene (Sava); sister-in-law Melissa; nephew Nick (Alison); nieces, Carrie and Jennie, Godson Michael; and many other nieces and nephews in Canada and Greece, and extended family who she loved dearly. Anna's family would like to thank the staff at The Grace Hospice who took exceptional care of her this past year. There are too many people to thank and it would be impossible to list them all. To everyone: thank you. A prayer service will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church on Sunday, January 16 at 7:00 p.m.. Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 17 at 2:00 p.m. also at the church with Fr. Gianniou officiating. Coffee will follow after the prayers and a light lunch will follow the funeral service. Pallbearers: Sarantos Mattheos, Vasili Mattheos, Gary Hotson, Will Barnstead, Mike Vardalos, Brian Locken. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anna's memory to The Grace Hospice in care of the Grace Hospital Foundation 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3J 3M7.
