Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIVAR OLAF WHITFORD Peacefully on Tuesday, January 18, 2005, our dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away at Carman Memorial Hospital. He will be sadly missed, and lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Esther; son Barry (Dianne); daughter Bev (Bob) Fitchner; grandchildren, Kim (of Santiago, Chile), Kerry (Corby), Chrystie, Shauna, and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Ty; brother Cyrus (Ellen); sister-in-law Nellie; and many nieces and nephews. Ivar was born in Rose Valley, SK September 16, 1921. At the tender age of 19, he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces, and proudly served his country in The Second World War, and the Korean War, retiring after 25 years of distinguished service and with a rank of Warrant Officer II in 1966. Ivar lived the majority of his remaining years in Brandon, where he avidly pursued a variety of jobs and adventures, none more memorable for him than his interest in owning standard bred horses and following them on the Harness Racing circuit. It was this that brought him much success, many hours of entertainment, and numerous new friendships. He and Esther moved to Carman in 1994, to live closer to family. Ivar was a wise, gentle, loving man, whose happiest hours were spent with those he loved. He enjoyed nothing more than a competitive game of cards, reading books, talking politics, and drinking a good strong cup of coffee. His unending support, inspirational advice, and concern for others will be deeply missed by all his family. A service of remembrance will be held at Doyle's Funeral Chapel in Carman on Sunday, January 23 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Harvey Carmichael officiating. Private interment will take place at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so wish, memorial donations may be made to the Carman Memorial Hospital, or a charity of one's choice. Doyle's Funeral Chapel of Carman in care of arrangements. www.doyleschapels.com
