STEPHEN (STEVE) SENNIE Peacefully, on Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at the Selkirk General Hospital, Steve Sennie, aged 83 years, a longtime resident of Roseau River, First Nation, MB. Steve leaves to mourn his beloved wife Agnes; children, Marcel, Patricia (Oliver) Monkman, Theresa (Richard) Sennie and LuAnn (Herman); 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Victoria Sinclair and Doris Slater; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Jean in 1946 and Dennis in 1975; and one daughter Sandra in 1979; his mother Rose Sennie; four brothers; one sister and one great-grandchild. Dad served in the Second World War from 1942 to 1945 with the Manitoba Dragoons. After the war he married Agnes Martin in Winnipeg and both made their permanent home in Roseau River Reserve where they raised their children. When Steve's health declined in November 2004, they moved from their home of 59 years to live in Selkirk with their daughter Patsy and her husband Oliver. During their lifelong stay at home, Dad farmed and raised cattle in the early years. He was an experienced carpenter and did a lot of making and repairing furniture after he retired, a hobby which he enjoyed. He also did editorials for a paper in Morris, MB which ran once a week and went to legion meetings in Dominion City, MB where he was a lifetime member. Steve had accomplished too much to mention in his long and full life. A wake will be held on Friday, January 21 at the Roseau River Community Hall. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 22 at 1:00 p.m. also in the hall. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff and Dr. Pieterse of the Selkirk General Hospital for all their care and compassion. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

  • I was acquainted with your husband and father when I lived in Dominion City. I remember him as a very nice gentleman and proud veteran. - Posted by: Helen Gibson (Acquaintance) on: Jan 21, 2005
