NICHOLAS (NICK) KOTYK

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNICHOLAS (NICK) KOTYK Nicholas (Nick) Kotyk, aged 85 years, of Fort Frances, ON, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2005, at LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. He was born on February 17, 1919, in Arbakka, MB, to the late Demetro and Wasylyna Kotyk. The family moved to Fort Frances in 1928. In 1938 Nick joined the Canadian Army in Winnipeg and before leaving overseas was united in marriage to the former Ann Yaremkiw of Winnipeg on January 14, 1940. While overseas Nick saw action in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. On his discharge Nick returned to Winnipeg where he worked as a health inspector until 1951 at which time he moved to Fort Frances where he had since resided. He was predeceased by his wife Ann in February 1989; and two sisters, Mary Nind of Toronto and Dora Fairbairn of Thunder Bay. Nick is survived by one son Milton Kotyk and wife Iris (nee Kolynchuk) and their son Matthew, all of Oakbank, MB; three brothers, Bill Kotyk and wife Alice of Winnipeg, Nestor Kotyk and wife Shirley of Burnaby, BC, Ted Kotyk and wife Norma of Brainard, MN; and three sisters, Lily Pidlubny and Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Kotyk both of Thunder Bay, Dr. Olga Rogers and husband Dr. Francis Rogers of St. Catherines; and one brother-in-law John Yaremko and wife Rita of Winnipeg. Prayers and visitation were on Sunday, January 9. Funeral services were held on Monday, January 10 at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Michael Kopchuk, St. George Greek Orthodox Church, officiated with interment in the Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances. An Honour Guard from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 29 attended. Pallbearers were Dave Bell, Wade Bell, Janet Bell, Nancy Davis and Legionnaires Walter Sobkowicz and Lawrence Carter. In memoriam donations may be made to The Amethyst House, Northern Cancer Research Foundation, 290 Munro St., Thunder Bay, ON P7A 7T1.
