SANDFORD SANDY MUNSON Sandford Sandy Munson born April 1, 1946 in Cornwall, MB. Died January 9, 2005 in Cornwall, ON after a short battle with cancer. Predeceased by parents Carl and Monica Munson; brother Wilfred Munson; brother-in-law Steve Nikolychuk. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Patricia Martin; son Russell (Krista) Munson, daughter Julia (Trevor) Stoesz and their mother Lynn Baumet; sister Marge Nikolychuk; brother John Munson; niece Joy (Craig) Matechuk and nephew Perry (Angie) Nikolychuk as well as many other friends and family scattered across Canada and the United States. Sandy was raised in Strathclair, MB. After high school he worked a short time with Manitoba Hydro before heading into Northern SK and MB with Hudson's Bay Co. and the Northern Coop's. In 1976, the family moved to Worsley, AB to open and operate Munson's Frontier Mart. After 5 years, Sandy and his family moved to Regina and he took employment with Westfair Foods. He worked for 11 years as a retail counsellor before embarking on a two year adventures in Uganda, Africa with Mennonite Central Committee. Upon his return to Canada, Sandy again turned to his roots in the North with Arctic Coop's and Precambrian Wholesalers. Sandy married Pat in 1997 and settled in Winnipeg. A career change in 1999 awakened a new passion in Sandy's life as he set out on the open road as a long distance trucker. In 2001, Sandy and Pat moved to Long Sault, ON and made their home along the St. Lawrence Seaway. Sandy has made many dear friends in every stop along the course of his life and his family would like to express their thanks to everyone for their concern and sympathy. A celebration of his life was held January 14, in Cornwall, ON. Anyone wishing to do so may donate, in Sandy's name, to the Canadian Cancer Society with the funds marked for Melanoma research.
