GEORGE WHITE On Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at the Charleswood Care Centre, Winnipeg, Henry George White of Winnipeg, formerly of Portage la Prairie, passed away at the age of 79 years. Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Monday, January 24 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Ross Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. George was born on December 5, 1925, son of the late Emily and David White at Portage la Prairie. He was raised in the Oakland district and attended the Rob Roy School. He then farmed with his parents in the Oakland district. In October 1952 he contacted Polio and moved with his parents to reside in Portage la Prairie until 1957. In April 1957 he went to live with his brother on the farm in the Flee Island district, keeping house to a great extend and managing to drive a tractor and combine, but with limitations due to the effects of Polio. He moved to Longburn with his brother in the summer of 1959, staying there until the fall of 1964. He then moved to Winnipeg. During the winter months and each spring he came out to the farm to live with his brother and sister-in-law Dorothy. In April 1968 he became employed with Duran Concrete as a bookkeeper until his retirement in 1988, and has continued to reside in Winnipeg. George was a member of the Church of Christ. He had a great interest in tractors and engines. Later he enjoyed watching sports and auto racing on the television. Predeceased by his father David in 1973, his mother Emily in 1972 and his sister Elsie, he leaves to mourn his passing his brother Albert and sister-in-law Dorothy of rural Portage; one sister Ruth Germaine of Prince Edward Island; and brother-in-law Fred Nazar of rural Portage. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the funeral home for visitation prior to the service. Should friends so desire memorial donations may be made in George's name to the Society for Crippled Children and Adults, 825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5.
